We offer one-to-one and small-group work aimed at improving your personal development

Youth Development

Our service has been designed to help you build your confidence in all areas of your life.

With the guidance of a designated mentor you will take part in activities designed around your needs, whether on a one-to-one basis or in a small group, the choice is yours.

We will help you take the next step to get where you want to be, build your confidence and increase your chances of a brighter future, taking place Monday to Thursday.

We have a dedicated team to help with Youth Development.

Projects have included artwork and this part of Futureworks NY is one of our most well-attended.

Please contact us for more information as to how young people can access our Youth Development service.

We’ve received £90,000 of Children in Need funding. This is core funding for the next three years, helping us with our work with young people aged 15-years to 18-years.

What You Get

Qualifications & Life Skills

Functional Maths

Functional maths is different to GCSE Maths as it focuses on learning skills that can be transferred into everyday situations. It is not taught through a strict curriculum and you learn subjects in functional maths that you will need to use in the future. We have Monday morning and Monday afternoon sessions for Functional Maths.

Functional English

Functional English is based around reading, writing, speaking and listening. It is focused on skills that are transferable for use in college or employment in the future. All the areas that you will cover will help you improve vital communication skills needed for adult life. We have Monday morning and Monday afternoon sessions for Functional English.

Employability & Personal Development

Our course in employability and personal development is all about helping you gain the skills to help you apply for jobs or colleges. It has units based on CV writing, job searches and interview skills. The personal development side of the course includes units on team work and communication skills. We have one-to-one sessions with our learners all day Tuesday, on Wednesday mornings and all day Thursday.

What Our One-To-One Sessions Can Include

Our one-to-one sessions with our learners can vary and can be adapted to the individual. So one session can include confidence building, support with writing a CV, guidance about job applications, attending appointments, developing fitness and careers advice.

Wednesday Afternoon Group Sessions

Wednesday afternoons at Futureworks NY are when our group sessions take place. Activities and tasks can vary, including art and crafts, life skills, searching for jobs, employability, various team-building games and guest speakers. These sessions have a number of aims including building confidence, self-esteem, interactional skills and can lead to learners discovering new hobbies and interests, building friendships and increasing confidence. Skills are also gained along the way.

Futureworks, for myself and the other learners who completed the course alongside me, has changed my life for the better, going from anxious and confidence-lacking person who stayed in bed for most of the day to who I am now.

Jonny’s confidence has grown so much since he started with us that he’s even stated that he has learned more with us than he did at school. We arranged an interview with the local Skills Village and Jonny to discuss his future and a possible apprenticeship in plastering which was very successful, and Jonny is now on working with them up at the Skills Village.
